The collection includes traditional Omani Weapons such as swords, daggers, rifles & their accessories, along with jewellery, cosmetics & costumes from various regions of Oman.

The visitor can now see examples of both rural and urban traditional Omani architecture. The recently renovated and restored historic Omani town house at Bait Al Zubair enables you to step back in time and experience how people lived and also give them a rare glimpse of photographs, print and maps detailing the changing face of Muscat, the capital of Oman.

Post Conference Tour

Nizwa Tours ¬ Fascinating Forts
0730 hrs.

We depart from Muscat on a full day tour by a/c luxury coach and drive westwards along Muscat’s busy and impressive highway, passing many beautiful and important sites and landmarks en-route. Drive along the famous route once traveled by renowned travelers like Ibn Batuta and Marco Polo, to Nizwa. It is the traditional capital of the vast interior region of Oman.

As you approach Nizwa at dawn, a scene straight from the pages of ‘The Arabian Nights’ greets you. Every Friday morning (only), the paved area in front of the souq is a bustle with people and activity. Reluctant goats, sheep and pale brown cows brought to the market by their owners; impromptu stalls piled high with Kaleidoscopic colors of dresses, toys, pots and pans.

Follow the crowd and you will invariably be led to the open-air goat market under the palm trees. Pretty longhair Omani goats and woolly sheep are tethered, waiting patiently – or not so patiently – to be walked around the circle of potential buyers.

Behind them, the impressive New Souq complex has been sensitively designed using Omani fort architecture and elegant Islamic arches. The air-conditioned halls of this souq are full of fresh fruit and vegetables, herbs and spices, huge stacks of dates and freshly caught fish. This is still the best place to buy traditional silver “Khanjars” (hand- carved Omani daggers) and Bedouin jewellery, where silver is still sold by weight.

At the far end and through the gate – which leads up to Nizwa Fort. The 17th century round tower fort nearby is Oman’s most impressive tower. Built on a solid base of rock, the huge tower was designed to withstand the vibrations of 24 cannons. From the top, a superb panoramic view gives visitors a bird’s eye view all around Nizwa and the surrounding plains – a sure delight for all avid photographers!

Proceed to the Al Hoota caves where one gets a chance to view stalactites and stalagmites as well as an underground lake. The show-cave can only be reached by visitors in an electrical train that runs through a tunnel alongside the main entrance. The show-cave is equipped with pathways and special lighting system. Guided tours provide explanations and are customized according to visitor's expectations.

After that drive to Al Hamra village, situated on the foothills of Jabal Akhdar (green mountains) & enjoy a walk through its oasis and its dense date plantations.

Picnic Lunch at Birkat Al Mauz. After a relaxed lunch, drive through the lush green oasis village of Birkat-Al-Mauz, stopping for a photo stop in front of its unique two-tiered falaj system and tiny castle.

Return to the hotel in Muscat.
